Canadians don't need to look to Ferguson to find racial elements in policing

#Ferguson2Tdot protestAuthorities across the U.S. had braced themselves for race riots unseen since the Rodney King verdict, and with sad predictability, some in Ferguson reacted to the grand jury's decision not to indict a city cop for killing a young black man with looting and burning. While it hasn't had to deal with anything like the effects slavery, America's "original sin," it has not been immune from systemic discrimination against minorities, including blacks and especially First Nations people. First Nations people often have been discounted crime victims, too.

Canada 'concerned' as Buy America rules applied to B.C. ferry build

VANCOUVER (Reuters) - The Canadian government said on Tuesday it is "deeply concerned" by a State of Alaska effort to apply 'Buy America' rules to a ferry terminal being built in a remote northern British Columbia port town. Under Buy America provisions, Canadian iron and steel products cannot be used in the up to $15 million rebuild of the Prince Rupert ferry terminal, located just south of the Alaska border, despite the fact that the project is in Canada. The terminal is owned and operated by Alaska's Department of Transportation, which leases the land from the Prince Rupert Port Authority. ...
