How common is harassment on Parliament Hill?

Pacetti and AndrewsParliament Hill was rattled with story, on Wednesday, that some senior press gallery types noted that they hadn't seen before.  Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was forced to suspend two members of his party's caucus — ethics critic Scott Andrews and Quebec MP Massimo Pacetti — after two female New Democrat MPs alleged they were harassed by them.  It's unclear, at this point, what kind of harassment the NDP MPs are alleging.


Coyote nearly kills dog in Burlington backyard

Pet owners in Halton Region are on edge after coyote attacks killed one dog and seriously maimed another.  Jenn and David Reid of Burlington, Ont., almost lost their brown-and-white cocker spaniel, Holly, last week when it was attacked in their backyard.   "I saw something that caught my eye and realized there was a coyote in our yard and it had a hold of our dog," she told CHCH.

Nero assessed for adoption after being surrendered for noise complaints

Nero was surrendered to the Calgary Humane Society by his owner after mounting complains over his excessive barking in the southwest community of Millrise. Neighbours were also concerned that the dog spent most of his time outside on a concrete pad. The rescue group will be responsible for assessing the dog for possible adoption.

Canadian MP quits legislature after campaign finance conviction

MP Del Mastro pauses while announcing his resignation in the House of Commons on Parliament Hill in OttawaOTTAWA (Reuters) - A Canadian member of parliament who sat as an independent resigned his seat on Wednesday following a court conviction last week for violating campaign financing rules. Dean Del Mastro was elected as a Conservative and served as parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, but became an independent last year in light of the charges regarding the 2008 election campaign. An Ontario court found him guilty on Oct. 31 of exceeding the campaign expense limit and failing to report a campaign contribution and election expense. Del Mastro said he did nothing wrong. ...


Canada economy stronger than thought in first-half 2014

The revised figures raised second-quarter growth in gross domestic product to 3.6 percent from the 3.1 percent first reported by Statscan. The agency revised first-quarter growth slightly higher, to 1 percent from 0.9 percent. ...
