| Two-thirds of Canadians made an RRSP contribution, up slightly from last year Posted: 03 Mar 2014 09:02 PM PST MONTREAL - Two-thirds of Canadians polled would like to have put more money into their RRSPs for the 2013 tax year, according to a new survey that found average contributions were down slightly this time around. The Bank of Montreal's (TSX:BMO) RRSP deadline survey, conducted last week, said that Canadians were contributing an average of $3,518 to their RRSPs, down $26 from an average of $3,544 for the 2012 tax year. "It looks like from one year to the next, we're consistent," said Chris Buttigieg, senior manager of wealth planning strategy at BMO Financial Group. Meanwhile, more than two-thirds of Canadians were making contributions to their Registered Retirement Savings Plan before the deadline, which expired at midnight Monday night, up from the year-earlier's 63 per cent. |

| Canadian officials want accused U.S. fraudster declared inadmissible Posted: 03 Mar 2014 03:27 PM PST VANCOUVER - A former hospital CEO wanted in the United States for bilking the medicaid system out of tens of millions of dollars should be declared inadmissible to Canada and sent back to face trial, say immigration officials. Rogan was detained by Canada Border Services Agency on May 26, 2008, at Vancouver's airport as he returned from a business trip to China. "One of the things to consider that would be in line with that allegation, would be to basically prevent Canada from being used as a safe haven by persons who are facing criminal proceedings in another country," Vasilekas told the hearing. Tamara Duncan, Rogan's lawyer, questioned why he was order detained. |
