'Sexy' Halloween kids costumes at Value Village anger momValue Village, popular purveyor of second-hand duds, has been blasted by a Victoria, B.C. mother upset over some pre-packaged kids' Halloween costumes that not only reinforce gender stereotypes but make little girls look sexy. Raina Delisle was shopping at her local Value Village for a costume for her four-year-old daughter, whose possible choices included dressing as a firefighter. Value Village, which has an advertising blitz every Halloween to pitch its stores as a costume mecca, offered both girls' and boys' police and firefighter costumes.

Dangerous dog applications filed for 4 dogs in September attackThe owners of four dogs involved in a September attack in Edmonton will have to wait a while longer to learn the final verdict on what will happen to their pets. The attack, which happened near 101st Street and 112th Avenue, sent a 54-year-old woman to hospital and her dog to the vet, both with serious injuries. Keith Scott with Animal Control said the city has been working with Edmonton police and the dogs' owners to determine the next steps in the dogs' management.

Sales increased 0.2 percent from July to a seasonally adjusted C$53.07 billion ($46.96 billion), just shy of June's record C$53.10 billion, and 6.0 percent higher than a year earlier. July's fall was revised to 0.2 percent from 0.3 percent. The August level was also the second highest in constant dollars. In volume terms, sales rose by 0.1 percent. ...
