| Albertans call with questions about stolen laptop filled with health information Posted: 23 Jan 2014 03:14 PM PST EDMONTON - Albertans worried about the theft of a laptop containing the health information of 620,000 patients are asking questions about whether their privacy has been compromised. A call centre set up by Medicentres Canada Inc., which operates 25 family health clinics in Edmonton and Calgary, received hundreds of calls Thursday, with many more expected. Dr. Arif Bhimji, a spokesman for the private company, said people are being told to come to a clinic to check whether their private details were on the laptop. The information on the stolen laptop included unencrypted names, birthdates, health card numbers, billing codes, billing amounts and diagnostic codes for patients who were seen at the clinics from May 2, 2011, to Sept. 19, 2013. |
| B.C. woman charged with felony over alleged threats to hockey player boyfriend Posted: 23 Jan 2014 04:48 PM PST Tieja MacLaughlin, who has worked for several media outlets in Kelowna, was charged with one count of felony harassment, according to court documents. She remained in custody, with bail set at $50,000, and she was scheduled to appear in court in Kennewick, Wash., on Friday. She is alleged to have threatened Jackson Playfair, a 19-year-old junior hockey player on the Tri-City Americans, who she had been dating since last summer, according to the documents. None of the allegations have been tested in court, and police documents and court records indicate MacLaughlin denied threatening to kill Playfair when questioned by officers. |
