JERUSALEM - There's a jam-packed day of historic firsts in store for Prime Minister Stephen Harper today on his inaugural visit to the Middle East. Harper begins his first full day in Israel with a visit to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Then it's on to the West Bank city of Ramallah, where Harper will sit down with Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas. On Sunday Harper and his wife, Laureen, basked in the warmth of the hero's welcome to Israel they were given at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Andrew VaughanOTTAWA - The military says a Canadian Forces warship on patrol in the Indian Ocean has intercepted a vessel carrying a massive haul of heroin. HMCS Toronto boarded the drug vessel Friday within 40 nautical miles of the coast of Tanzania and discovered 265 bags of heroin weighing in at more than 280 kilograms. It's the ninth time the frigate has intercepted drug shipments on the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, and the military says 8.5 metric tonnes of narcotics have been recovered thus far. HMCS Toronto is on patrol in the region as part of an international effort to curb terrorism and deter piracy on the high seas.

Suncor employee killed at Oil Sands site in Canada

(Reuters) - Canada's Suncor Energy Inc said on Sunday that an employee had died at its Oil Sands site in northern Alberta. The Calgary-based energy company said its emergency service personnel were called earlier in the day in after a employee went missing. A search followed and after a few hours the missing person was located. The individual was declared dead at the scene. The company did not say how the employee died and gave no further details. No other employees were involved. ...
