Man dies after police shoot him at North Surrey home

A man was shot by an RCMP officer in a North Surrey home in the 11700 block of 98A Avenue the night of Friday, Jan. 17. He was taken to hospital, but did not survive.A man died after being shot by an RCMP officer in a North Surrey home Friday night, the Independent Investigations Office has confirmed.

Toronto Pearson officials are asking passengers to check in online before arriving at the airport.HALIFAX - Some passengers angered by air travel ordeals say its time airlines in Canada be required to publicly disclose complaints of baggage problems, cancelled flights and tarmac delays, just like their counterparts do south of the border. Tiffany Flowers said she waited six days in Halifax after a weather delay cancelled her Jan. 3 Porter Airlines flight to Montreal, despite clear days in both cities. Flowers said her autistic son, 14, missed a medical appointment to adjust his medication as a result. Flowers said Ottawa should post airline records for delays, baggage mishandling and cancellations online for travellers.

Neil Young concludes anti-oilsands concert series with show in Calgary

CALGARY - Rock legend Neil Young's Honour the Treaties concert tour wraps up tonight in the province with the most at stake in the debate over the economic and environmental effects of oilsands development. The show, which supports the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation located downstream from the oilsands, takes place in Calgary. It follows stops earlier this week in Toronto, Winnipeg and Regina where Young dropped statements about the oilsands that many denounced as over-the top. Young has repeated claims that the oilsands mining projects near Fort McMurray resemble the devastation wrought by the atomic bomb in Hiroshima in 1945.

Harper will address Israel's parliament, the Knesset, on Monday, making history as the first Canadian prime minister to do so. It will be the prime minister's first visit to Israel since winning power in 2006. Spokesman Jason MacDonald says Harper will promote commercial relations, as well as peace and security in the region, when he meets Israeli leaders and, later in the week, the King of Jordan.
