Toronto Star city hall reporter Daniel Dale has taken the first step toward suing Mayor Rob Ford over comments he made in a televised interview with Conrad Black. Dale claims the mayor implied he was a pedophile.

The central banker told a business audience at the Canadian Club in Montreal on Thursday that it may take a couple of years before inflation returns to the two-per-cent target, which he called "sacrosanct." In fact, Poloz's speech suggests he could be cutting rates right now if he was not fearful of adding more fuel to an already overheated housing market and near record-high levels of household debt. "Our current monetary policy weighs this risk against the risk of inflation falling even further below target," he said.

Engine fire on an Air Canada Jazz plane forces emergency landing

The Air Canada Jazz flight was delayed 14 hours.NANAIMO, B.C. - Crew members aboard an Air Canada Express turboprop aircraft managed to put out an engine fire before returning to an airport on central Vancouver Island Thursday morning, says a Transportation Safety Board investigator. Glen Friesen, the TSB's acting regional manager, said passengers saw flames in the plane's No. 2 engine at about 7:30 a.m., shortly after the Dash 8-300 took off from the Nanaimo Airport. Russ Burke, chairman of the Nanaimo Airport Commission, said emergency crews surrounded the plane quickly. "All the passengers deplaned out on the runway, and emergency crews from both the airport and the... local fire departments and RCMP all responded," he said.

Stan Goertzen, 52, a retired 32-year member of the Saskatoon police service, found Thorne in Kamloops, B.C. He made a startling discovery. The allegations stem from Furlong's time teaching in northern B.C. in the late 1960s and early 1970s, which first surfaced in a newspaper article last year. Three people, including Beverly Abraham, have filed lawsuits against Furlong alleging sexual abuse, and the RCMP launched its own investigation into Abraham's claims. Furlong publicly released a letter Thursday written by an RCMP investigator in Prince George, under the heading: "John Furlong — allegation of sexual assault."

Air Canada plane lands safely after engine fire

An Air Canada Jazz turboprop plane bound for Vancouver was forced to make an emergency landing in the Pacific Coast province of British Columbia on Thursday after a fire broke out in one of its engines. Shortly after the Jazz Dash 8-300 aircraft took off from the city of Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, the crew was notified of an engine oil issue and flames were seen near one of the engines, Air Canada Jazz said in an emailed statement. Chorus Aviation Inc operates about 120 aircraft for Air Canada, the country's largest airline, under the Jazz Aviation brand. Air Canada's regional affiliate has 27 of the Bombardier-built Jazz Dash 8-300 planes in its fleet, which use two Pratt and Whitney (PW123) turboprop engines.
