Calgary city council votes to ban booze from city hallCity council has essentially banned liquor from city hall, and put council members on notice to keep their drinking to a minimum while on the job. Today, councillors approved a policy that prohibits them from drinking alcohol at work. The move comes just weeks after complaints about wild parties at city hall and the mayor saying he's received public complaints about councillors getting "blotto" at community events. Besides special events, Nenshi says booze is forbidden at city hall, mirroring the policy in place for all city employees.

Oilers fans are getting a glimpse at the amenities being offered in the future downtown arena, as well as the potential prices season-ticket holders will have to pay to enjoy them. The team hired Banister Research to conduct a market survey to determine what fans would be willing to pay when the new Rogers Place opens in 2016.

Oliver said although lower crude prices meant revenues had fallen, Canadian growth this year would exceed the average seen in the Group of Seven industrialized nations and noted the economy added 35,400 jobs in December. ...


In blow to Canada PM, legislator quits to join opposition party

Liberal leader Trudeau and MP Adams take part in a news conference in OttawaCanadian legislator Eve Adams left the governing Conservatives to join the opposition Liberal Party on Monday, in a fresh blow to Prime Minister Stephen Harper ahead of an election scheduled for October. Sitting alongside Liberal leader Justin Trudeau, Adams told reporters, "The party no longer shares my values". The move comes just a week after Foreign Minister John Baird's surprise resignation, which came amid talk of a split with Harper's office over Russia policy and other issues. Adams had fallen out with the right-leaning Conservatives, though, and it seemed unlikely she would run for the party in October.
