Aaron Nganatafam, who had been inside the warehouse, said he knew the attacker and considered him "very weird. A suspect, 29-year-old Jayme Pasieka, was arrested without incident on the city's south side about three hours later after officers received a tip from "a vigilant citizen" who noticed a vehicle matching a description that had been issued by police. Allan said Pasieka is an employee at the warehouse, which employs at least 100 people and handles food for the Superstore grocery chain, though it is not known if he was on shift Friday.

Paul Joseph Vukmanich has also been banned from owning a pet for 25 years. Judge Larry Anderson told Vukmanich on Friday that he didn't just attack a dog. Court heard that Vukmanich was high on drugs and fleeing from police last fall when he repeatedly stabbed the dog named Quanto.

| Tensions high in hearing for man charged with murder of Loretta Saunders Posted: 28 Feb 2014 07:10 PM PST  HALIFAX - Amid a heavy security presence and tensions that ran high, the friends and family of Loretta Saunders packed a Halifax courtroom Friday to get their first glimpse of the man charged in the death of the Inuit student. Moments after 25-year-old Blake Leggette entered provincial court, a man in the gallery screamed "You gutless coward" and "Watch, bud, watch" before being reprimanded by one of many sheriffs and police officers. Sitting on the prisoner's bench in a light green sweatshirt and jeans, Leggette stared ahead as the case against him and his 28-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Henneberry, was adjourned until March 19. The couple were charged Thursday with first-degree murder after Saunders's body was found on a snow-covered median off the Trans-Canada Highway in New Brunswick a day earlier.

A Foreign Affairs Department report on the lawful export of Canadian military goods shows that shipments to Ukraine jumped to $82,000 in 2011 from $50,000 in 2010. In 2011 — the year after Yanukovych was elected — Canada approved the shipment of $56,700 worth of "Smooth-bore weapons with a calibre of less than 20 mm, other arms and automatic weapons with a calibre of 12.7 mm or less and accessories" to Ukraine. The same year, Canada also exported more than $25,000 worth of "Smooth-bore weapons with a calibre of 20 mm or more, other weapons or armament with a calibre greater than 12.7 mm, projectors and accessories."

| Minor injuries, undetermined damage after fire aboard HMCS Protecteur Posted: 28 Feb 2014 05:01 PM PST  ESQUIMALT, B.C. - A Canadian navy warship stranded in the Pacific Ocean was expected to be towed to Hawaii after an engine-room fire significantly damaged the vessel and injured about 20 sailors, the navy said Friday. HMCS Protecteur, a 44-year-old supply ship, was in the Pacific Ocean, north of Hawaii, on Thursday night when the fire broke out. The ship was on its way to its home port of Esquimalt, B.C. The crew put out the flames and the ship was stabilized, though it had limited power, said Commodore Bob Auchterlonie, the commander of the navy's Pacific fleet.

The cost of flying the government plane down empty and returning with Redford, her daughter and two bodyguards was $9,200.
